A steel ingot rotating tong is a lifting device designed for both lifting and rotating steel ingots. It is mainly used in industries such as steel manufacturing, transportation, and shipping.


The structure of the steel ingot rotating tong consists of three main parts: the electrical section, the mechanical section, and the main body. The mechanical section is further divided into the rotating mechanism and the clamping mechanism.


Insert the outer legs of the tong into the center hole of the rolled plate. Activate the clamping motor to securely grip the steel ingot. After lifting the rolled plate, start the rotating motor. The rotating mechanism will drive the tong’s legs and the rolled plate to rotate to the next position, automatically stopping at the new position. The tong rotation operation can be performed while the crane is in operation.

Maintenance of ingot tongs

  • During use, if the rotation lock is not moving smoothly or is not in place, check and adjust the adjustment nut, and inspect the following parts: pulling spring of the pawl, transmission mechanism, and buffer spring stretch.
  • Prevent paint on the indicator board from peeling off during use. If peeling is found, promptly reapply the original indicator paint.
  • Regularly clean the steel wire ropes on the lifting equipment and apply lubricating oil or grease, especially at the bends of the wire ropes.
  • For main load-bearing components, lifting rings, rotation locks, ear plates, and fittings shackles inspect them at least every 3 months under normal use conditions to ensure there are no cracks or severe deformation.
  • All oil cups, including those on the ratchet mechanism, sliding bearing seats, and rotation lock boxes, should be lubricated with oil as needed based on usage.
  • Regularly check if the rope clamps are loose and if the buffer springs are overstretched. Address any issues promptly.
  • Do not exceed the rated lifting capacity of any lifting equipment, and avoid overstretching the buffer springs.
  • During lifting operations, ensure smooth lifting to avoid deformation caused by collisions between the lifting equipment and the crane or other equipment.
